About

A practical gear database for accurate backpacking loadouts.

Backpacking weight tracking gets messy around variants, options, older products, and conflicting source data. GramPacker exists to keep those details visible and usable.

Why it exists

Hikers need accurate carried-weight totals, but product data is often scattered across manufacturer pages, retailer listings, reviews, personal measurements, and old catalogs. GramPacker brings that evidence into one structured system.

What accurate means here

Accurate does not mean pretending every source agrees. It means preserving context: which product, which size, which option, which source, and whether a weight is verified, provisional, or in conflict.

Approach

Public product data, improved by manufacturer input.

The project uses public product information carefully while making room for official specs, exports, and historical data from manufacturers.

Product evidence

GramPacker distinguishes official specifications, retailer data, review-measured values, and unresolved conflicts.

Current and historical gear

The database is being shaped for current products, discontinued equipment, user-owned gear, and variant-specific records.

Early-stage status

GramPacker is not claiming a complete public catalog or launched application yet. This site introduces the project and supports the first round of manufacturer outreach.
